Jonny Boys

Jonny has been in the marine trade all his working life. Having grown up sailing in Chichester Harbour he started working with boats whilst still at school and decided quite early on that the marine world was where he wanted to be. JBT Marine (specialist Rigid Inflatable Boat business www.ribsforsale.com) was born, JBT Marine has been going for 14 years and is now run on a day-to-day basis by a very capable and loyal team. Jonny took over Thornham Marina, Emsworth, in 2004 and with his four-strong team has over the years improved the marina's functionality and appeal. Thornham Marina has a powerful sub-lift to raise and lower boats, and a number of marine tenants which is a huge benefit for customers working on their boats. He is now concentrating his time on Trafalgar Wharf, which is fast becoming one the best places to lift, launch, store and maintain your boat on the South Coast.

You might have seen him on Scrapheap Challenge and Scrappy Races as one of the members of the Boat Buoys. He loves to sail when he gets time, but also spending time with his family and showing his two little girls what sailing and RIBs are all about.

Simon Oatley – Operations Manager

Simon was based at the British Kiel Yacht Club for 12 years where as a RYA Instructor introduced hundreds of novice sailors to the sport. He has sailed widely throughout the Baltic and Europe, undertaken a trans-Atlantic crossing and many passages to Madeira and the Canaries. He was one of the youngest ever people to be awarded an MBE at the age of 28. His vast knowledge of sailing and racing, which includes a win in the Fastnet, and his time sail training means he has a wealth of knowledge.

Lisa Simpson – Office & Sales Manager

I’m a water baby – I have grown up with motorboats! I now sail! This year I started racing on a Farr 45. It's going well for me, I’m a quick learner and it's dinghy sailing next. It's the big 30 for me next year. I have worked in the marine industry in the Portsmouth and Southampton areas for the last 5 years. I’m a Yorkshire lass (but I was born in Lancashire)!  I love to socialise as much as possible and wakeboard for fun as and when I can. I lived in Brazil for most of last year and speak some Portuguese.

Tony Parkinson – Site Supervisor and Health and Safety Officer

Tony started out as a shipwright in the early seventies and progressed to becoming the hoist and crane foreman at the Haven Boatyard, which he did for 28 years. He joined Trafalgar Wharf in 2009 as Site Supervisor and Health and Safety Officer.

Tony is also a fully qualified Advanced Powerboat Instructor.
He has been involved with the Scout Movement for over 30 years and has run a Sea Scout Group in the New Forest for 28 years. Since moving to Southwick he has taken the position of Area Commissioner for Fareham East and is working with young people.

Tony was recently awarded the Scout Associations ‘Honour of the Silver Acorn’ for outstanding service to the movement. His proudest moment was being invited to Buckingham Palace for a royal garden party and talking to Her Royal Highness Princess Anne and the Duke of Edinburgh and also watching the changing of the guard from the front door is something he won’t forget.

Tony enjoys walking, entertaining friends and family at BBQs, cooking and spending valuable time with his family.

Philip Weight

I have been working for Trafalgar Wharf for a month now as a trainee yard operative. I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying the experience so far. Every day I feel it is a pleasure to come and work, it is unlike anything I have done before. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help and offer advice when needed. I am hugely grateful for the opportunity I have been given here. I have very little boating experience and find everyday here at Trafalgar Wharf a challenge for me and a huge insight as to what the marine industry is all about. Before now I have worked as a labourer for a landscaping firm local to me. I have travelled the country as an assistant shop fitter and have also supervised my local shop as a 'night staff supervisor'. Out of work I am a semi-professional session drummer. I have played for, and supported various bands. I have played in such venues as the 'Wedgewood Rooms' of Portsmouth and the 'Joiners Arms' of Southampton where artists such as Razorlight, Pete Dougherty and the Arctic monkeys have all played.

I live locally, just outside of Wickham in a small village called Waltham Chase. I have lived here now since 1994 so I know the surrounding areas fairly well.

As time progresses I hope to achieve a wealth of experience. So far all is well. I am learning something different everyday. But most of all, always make sure Tony gets his brew!
